Add Color to Your Bars and Windows:

Think up some colors. Your favorites maybe? Now right click your desktop. Stay away from the icons when you right click. :) Select "Properties". Now go to the "appearance tab".  Figure 1  Towards the bottom you should see a button named "Advanced"  Figure 2  Click this The trick to this is to pick colors that go well with the font color. You will pick from the dropdown. On some of the selections, you will have a font and colors for both to choose from. On others you will not have a font to choose from.  Figure 3  You do not have to mess with the text unless you plan to change these out too. (heehee) Some of these changes are hard to tell just what exactly it is. If you are not sure just what exactly your changing in this list, then I advise you to change it to yellow first. Then check out your windows etc to see where yellow shows up at. You can use any of the light colors as a test run. I use yellow as a example only. Some of these will show up in the window so you can see them, but not all of the changes will. Why do I say do this first? because some of the places can affect the font. Like the title bar. If you go too light in the color on the title bar, or real dark, then you set it up to have a either light text color or dark text color then you wont know what window you are in because you wont be able to see or read it. Now with the colors I would choose two colors one being darker than the other. I think it looks better. Plus it gives a nice affect on the titlebar. But you be the judge. You can choose a third color that will affect the inside of these windows too. You can even change out the color of high lighted Icons and text!  Figure 4  Cool huh. You can do all of this here. Some selections though only have one color choice not two. If you change the font size and type, remember some fonts will look good others will look like crap. So experiment with it, and see what you come up with. Also on some computers the font type can't be changed at all it is grayed out. The best you can do is increase or decrease the size. If you can change the font you will have to have "inactive titlebar" and "active titlebar" showing on the dropdown, or one of the other few that have the font included. But the best of all of doing this is if you have a large monitor or not, once you get this set up, you should be able to see fonts better, and have a nice little show of color too. This does have its drawbacks when you change the fonts. On your menu if you change the fonts on this you may have to change another setting in order for all of your programs to show up. To do this you right click on the start button and select "properties". select the customize button look at the options for "Advanced Start Menu Items", towards the bottom of this window. Near the bottom (scroll down) is a setting for "scroll menu items". If this is ticked remove it and see what difference it makes or select it and see. If you don't have this option under this it may be named "scroll programs" This is just a option so that incase some of your menu disappears you still will be able to see everything you have under the start button. You can see to where I had to change this out, and set this option up on my box in  Figure 5 (105 k)  it shows this. Of course some of you may not be aware that a few of your programs are no longer showing up under the start menu. Or you might be able to finally find those lost programs! *grin*  Figure 5 (105 k)  and  Figure 6 (83 k)  is the finnished product on my box.
