Setup for StarMIRC

  • First go to  Starchat User Policy and read Starchat user policy. Please be sure you understand.

    Downloading StarMIRC:

  • Go to  Starchat and look for the following button outlined in figure one. Or find the following button named "StarMIRC" figure one   

  • The following window in figure two will popup if you have Internet Explorer. Or you will have a similar window."   figure two  Click on the "save" button.

  • The next window you choose where to save the file too if you have Internet Explorer. figure three  And then you click on the "save" button, and the following Window in Internet Explorer will popup showing you the progress of the download. figure four  Firefox is different you set this up after setting up Firefox, so the file will auto download to the folder you chose at that time. The following window will popup showing the download progress in Firefox figure five.

  • After the download is complete go to the folder that the file StarMIRC.exe was saved too. figure six

    Installing StarMIRC:

  • Right click the file and select scan with your anti-virus software. (Always scan downloads before installing them.) figure seven  After the scan, right click the file and select "open"  figure eight 

  • The Welcome to StarMIRC screen will pop up please read this window carefully. Be sure to close open software other than the starchat install. figure nine If you can't shut down all of the software you have running at the moment, then now is the time to press the "Exit" button. Install StarMIRC at a later time. Click on the "Next" button to continue with the install.

  •  You will now see the following picture. This is the file directory selection. I leave this alone. Let StarMIRC decide what folder to install too. Click on the "next" button. figure ten 

  •  If you don't have a StarMIRC folder then you will get a warning window. It will ask if you want this folder/directory created? Select the "yes" button. figure eleven 

  •  This is a confirmation window, clicking on the "start" button starts the install of StarMIRC. figure twelve 

  •  StarMIRC is installing. figure thirteen 

  •  When the install is complete the company that made the installer does a little advertising in this window. If you are still connected to the Internet, click on the link if you want too on this window. But you don't have too just click on the "exit" button.  figure fourteen 

  •  Congratulations! StarMIRC is installed.

    Using Starmirc for the first time

  •  The following Window you will need to fill in for the first time. Notice the nickname, full name, email address, etc. If you have been on Starchat you see that nickname a lot. Some times the nickname is followed by a number. Like StarMIRC5 figure fifteen 

  •  The charm to filling this out is to be creative without being vulgar. You can really have fun with this. Just remember too... No one puts their real name, or real email address in those boxes. Just study the picture I have here and you will see what I mean. Don't be vulgar on any part of this. This info or parts of it will show up in chat and on a whois. You can be kicked and even ban from some chat servers for being vulgar. figure sixteen 

  •  This is where the server list is located at. I included this picture so you could get a look at it without messing with it. Notice to the left that "server" is highlighted. And the word "connect" is not highlighted as it was in the picture before this one. Note the + plus and - minus signs too. figure seventeen 

  •  Have you made a mistake? If you have you will be able to tell before you connect to the server by looking at top on the color bar. As shown in this picture, you will see if you are connected, your nickname, and the IRC server you are fixing to connect too. figure eighteen 

  •  As soon as you connect this window will popup asking for your password. This is your nickserv ID password. If your nick is not registered with Starchat then click on the "cancel" button. If it is then type in your password, and click on "OK".  figure nineteen 

  •  If the nick belongs to someone else, then you will get a warning to choose another nick. type:
    /nick newnickgoeshere to change your nick. If you don't change your nick when you get a warning like this. Your nick will change on its own to "guest##" Or if the nick doesn't have the guard on you could loose it in the middle of a conversation and become a guest or be asked to change your nick. figure twenty 

  •  After you type in the new nick, you will either get another warning or you will get success, and it will say your new nick is blah blah. . figure twenty one

    Finding a channel:

  •  In the following picture you will see where the channel favorites list is at.  figure twenty two This is very handy for finding cool chat rooms on Starchat. Scroll through the list. Click on a channel name in the list, and then click on the "join" button. figure twenty three 

  •  This is me joining a random channel on Starchat! figure twenty four

  •  How to maximize the chat screen. Click on the center button at the upper right hand corner. figure twenty five

    Registering your nick:

  •  Registering your nick does three things. It keeps the nick in reserve for ONLY you. And it makes it a whole lot easier for your online friends to find you. Plus it makes things more secure for Starchat.

  •  In the same place you type to a channel at type the following:
    /ns register validemail@addresshere yourpasswordhere figure Twenty six  You must use a valid email account because Starchat will be sending you a activation key.

  •  Success means on the screen you will get a message stating a email has been sent to your Email account, and the email account will be shown. If you made a mistake then join #starchat to get this fixed. Otherwise go to the email account you used to register with and find the email Starchat has sent you. If your spam settings are medium to high then check your junk folder incase it got placed there.  figure Twenty seven

    Activating your nick

  •  Go to your email account and look for the email from Starchat. You will find a code number in this email copy this and then paste it in the status screen or channel at starchat.  figure Twenty eight 

  •  If activation fails most of the failures are because of extra spaces in the code that don't belong, or not enough spaces and even spelling errors. Join #starchat for help if you can't find your error. figure Twenty nine 

  •  Success you will get the following message. figure Thirty

    How to ID to Starchat:

  •  Type: /ns ID passwordhere. figure Thirty one 

  •  If the password is accepted you will see the following picture. If not then refer to the picture above in "Figure Thirty one" . figure Thirty two

    Using F keys for *NEW* StarMIRC

    F2 Nick Reg
    A box will popup - type in email click ok
    Another box will popup - enter password click ok
    That's it, nick is registered but not activated
    (on StarmIRC this also sets up auto-id)
    ***
    F3 Channel reg

    As long as you are registered, and in the channel opped, then you can press F3 and, voila, the channel is registered.
    ***
    F4 Nick Activation

    A box will pop up for your activation code, fill the numbers in, click ok and all done
    ***
    F5 Sets up auto ID on connect

    A box will pop up, you need to put your password in the box and click ok. From now on when you connect you will auto ID to nickserv
    ***
    All the above F commands can be repeated if they change nick/password etc

    A few things you need to know...
    Channel owners can make the rules for their channels when it comes to bans and kicks and Starchat has no control over bans or kicks in their channels. Starchat does not get involved in these type disputes. Please be curtious too all chatters. Remember you could be chatting with a teenager so watch your mouth. Do not post your email addresses in a open chat room. And please limit the amount of personal information you post in public and in private. Please ask before you private message a chatter. Starchat has the right to close any channel they feel is offensive or abusive. Plus they can shut your channel down if your channel is causing problems period. StarChat does not tolerate Spam or porn. Please be respectful of Starchats rules. No one really likes to ban chatters. But StarChat, and the channel Ops will if it is necessary. StarChat is, and always will be a family friendly chat network.

  •  Have you seen that purple text everyone loves to post in and wondered how it is done? It is done by a /me action. Type: /me does the happy dance.
