Site Advisor:
Was you ever on a website and wondering if they was up to no good? You now have software that will let you know just what lurks there.
They scan using a bot on the Internet, and then they put up information for the public to view about the website in question. It's pretty straight forward to use, and very easy for anyone using your computer. At the present time this tool (SiteAdvisor) can use the following search engines: Google, Ask, AOL.com, Yahoo! or MSN. They are working hard to support even more.
It shows you how the website ranks security wise.
Green: Safe: We tested the site and didn't find any significant problems.
Yellow: Caution: Our tests revealed some minor security or nuisance issues. Also applies to sites which have previously had (directly or through corporate affiliations) past security issues.
Red: Warning: Our automated tests and/or our manual analysis revealed some serious issues to consider before using this site at all. (Example: The site sent us lots of spammy e-mail, bundled adware with a download, or has a business relationship with a company known for bad past practices).
How does SiteAdvisor test sites?
SiteAdvisor's engineers built a system of automated robots to test every Web site, download, and e-mail sign-up form on the Web.
* Web sites are tested for excessive pop-ups, and other fraudulent practices, and browser exploits.
* Downloads are analyzed by installing software on our test computers and checking for viruses and any bundled adware, spyware or other unwanted programs.
* Sign-up forms are completed using a one-time use e-mail address so the volume and "spamminess" of any subsequent e-mail can be tracked.
* Feedback from individual users and site owners, plus analysis by SiteAdvisor staff enhance SiteAdvisor's automated testing.

The only thing some people are griping about is the fact they get feedback from individual users and site owners also. Some say that if you have a disgruntled customer, then they could hurt you because of this system. Plus what website owner will give their own website a bad review? Well, I don't think they will go by the views of just one person, and I am sure they realize that website owners love their websites regardless if it's built for the general public in good faith, or to screw up as many people online as they can. McAfee, Inc. has been around for a while, and dealing with scum bags for sometime. I am sure they know what they are doing. Plus the way they test a website is hands on. What better way to find out?
