Burn CD Using Easy CD Creator:

Burning a CD is easy. The first time you do this and find out how easy it is to do, you will slap yourself for not digging in sooner. I will be using Easy CD creator 5 Basic made by Roxio Go to  Roxio's Product's Page  I know I should upgrade this. But it does the job, and I just never had the need to upgrade. When I do, If anything changes I will post it here. What I don't list will be in the help section for the software. Roxio does have the best tutors that I know of for this type software. If you have something different than this. You still may be able to follow along some. A few of them allow you to drag and drop files to be burned. The concept is about the same. You just have to remember a few ground rules first, and you shouldn't have any problems burning Cds. Ground rule one is don't be running any software in the background. These type programs use a lot of resources. The more you have running in the background, the better chance of having errors occur. The better your chance that you will be throwing out bad CDs too. Plus running stuff in the background slows the burn down tremendously. Ground rule number two if you do have a error you might as well start over. Most errors fail to write to the CD. So you might as well start over. Ground rule number three. If you are burning several CDs watch your computer for a slow down. Reboot often. It is better to burn a CD a week than it is to wait till the last moment and burn four to six at one time. Ground rule number four. Make backups of everything that is important to you. Your computer can crash any day, and at any time. If you are on dial-up and you spent half the night downloading software go ahead and put that software on a CD. Put Registration keys on the CDs too. This is the biggest complaint is lost keys. Make a text file for them.

Now on with the tutorial! ... This tutorial has pictures I promise you wont get lost. :)

First go to "start" then "programs" and find "Roxio Easy Cd" in the program list.  Figure One

after Roxio loads you will see this picture  Figure Two  if you notice I have a red rectangle around the option we will be using for this CD burn. We will be creating a data CD. Use this option to save software, and files, even email that you need to save. This option is also used to back up your computer. So when you see this window hover on the "Make a CD" and then click on "Data CD Project" I promise you even the other options listed here are easy. If you see the top of this pic you will notice the option to make some music Cds the only difference is a extra option for Roxio to add some data at the end so that you can play your Cds in the car, or in the stereo, etc. You can even make copies of your Cds using the "disk copier" option at the bottom of this window. On to figure three.
On figure three...  Figure Three  Right under "Select source files" click the little arrow I have in red select the drive to where you have your files located that you want to copy to CD. My files are located in My Documents folder so that is where I want to select/highlight and click.
All files in this folder will be shown in the top window. This window displays the "name" "size" "type" and "date modified" going across. If you notice the bottom window is empty. See  Figure Four.  Continue looking at this picture. Select/highlight a file in the top window you want to save to CD. Now In the center of the Picture you will see the "Add" button. Click on this to add this file. Now this file is added to the bottom window. When it is in the bottom window it means that file will be burned to CD. You can see this on the next picture  Figure Five  Now look at the bottom of this window in figure  Figure Five  you will notice a couple things have happened when you added the file to be copied. Easy Cd Creator keeps track of space used by each file. The green line is just one of those methods used to let you know how much space is being used. But those numbers down there represent how much space is used too. Keep a eye on this. Your CD can only hold so much. Look at the pic you will see to where I have 125.4MB of files already on the CD. I have some of the instructions on the Picture. But Music CDs need extra space. Data CDs do too but not as much. On the next picture  Figure Six  You can see the green line is almost to the end. and the numbers are saying I have used 616.12MB of space on the CD. So it's time to record! This is all that is going on this CD because it is my special CD for just my security stuff. Have you got one? In-between both windows, on the far right side is "record" press this button, and you will see the Very top windows displayed on the picture here  Figure Six  The Record CD setup pops up, and when you press the "start recording" button you will be prompted to put a CD in the drive. I always go ahead and put a blank CD in as soon as this window pops up. Then you press the "start recording" button. Now I leave the computer to allow the CD burner to do it's job. Messing with the computer now can cause errors, plus slow the burn down. When it is done you will see  Figure Seven  Cds will hold anywhere from 650MBs to 700MBs. If you are not sure go with the lesser one. Or watch your green line at the bottom. Don't guess if you have too much. It is better to guess to little than to guess to much. A added bonus to help with this process is to make a folder on your computer in the "My Documents" folder. Everytime you come across something you want to save add it to that folder by right clicking the file and copy then paste to that folder. To watch the space left in that folder. Right click the folder and select "properties" from the menu. The size of the folder will be displayed. You want the "size on disk" Try not to make too many folders inside folders. One folder with folders inside is fine. But if your clicking one folder then another folder to get to another folder, then this may be a problem for some burners. Always check your new cd when you are finnished to be sure it is working fine. Enjoy!
